About the Artist

Thira Rose’s artwork speaks to climate concerns as seen through her personal experiences and observations as an outdoor runner, hiker, and backpacker. After participating in the Scholastic Arts and Writing competition, Thira was awarded the Gold Key Scholarship and attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) from 2018 to 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic brought her back to her hometown of Austin, Texas where Thira rediscovered her love for the hill country through running and plein air painting. In 2021, Thira transferred to Southwestern University (SU) in Georgetown, Texas where she received the Sarofim Scholarship in Studio Art, was selected to attend a residency at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was one of twelve students to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Thira graduated from SU in 2024 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a minor in Environmental Studies.

Thira has exhibited internationally and locally, including her Gold Key-awarded work, “Grandmother’s Hands,” which started in New York, New York, and traveled nationally for two years. Local showcases include several exhibitions at ArtUs Co in Austin, Texas, Highland Art Collective in Austin, Texas, and Southwestern University where Thira has work permanently on display and exhibited in several Student Art Exhibitions. Thira has also participated in several juried art competitions where she was awarded for her work. Currently, Thira lives and works in Austin, Texas where her passions for running, sustainability, and creating intersect.
